The Howry Residential Services Story
Care Centered on Compassion and Empowerment

Howry Residential Services began in 1995 as a family foster care provider founded by Mark and Susan Howry. While living in their home in Eagan, they welcomed a young man who faced challenges that made independent living difficult. Through this experience, the Howrys saw firsthand the value of compassionate, community-based support that empowers individuals to live as independently as possible.
In 1999, they recognized that many Minnesotans were seeking the same kind of supportive living environment. Wanting to expand this model of care, the Howrys moved out of their home and began finding housemates for their original resident. What started as a single-family home soon became the foundation of Howry Residential Services, with the first corporate foster care home established in 2000.
Today, Howry Residential Services operates 30 homes across five counties, supporting more than 100 individuals. As the organization has grown, it has intentionally maintained a small company feel, built on strong relationships, experienced staff, and a deep commitment to the people we serve.

Our Impact
I am the parent of two adult children who are fortunate enough to be cared for by Howry Residential Services. I have the highest regard for Howry and their well-trained staff. The expertise, genuine compassion, and consistent quality care is unsurpassed. Howry staff listen, are flexible, and adapt quickly and thoroughly to the dynamic needs of my children. I love the ease with which some very difficult situations have been managed for both of my children, and communication is always prompt and appropriate. I have seen Howry from the inside out as my son was privileged to be hired by them and worked in direct care for several years. As an employee, my son had an excellent experience and the best training. I would be happy to speak with anyone considering working for or be cared for by Howry Residential Services.
Working with HRS is wonderful! The clients really do come first. HRS staff take the time to go the extra mile. For example, one program director holds anniversary parties for a client each year she resides in her HRS home. HRS developed a very creative staffing plan to allow a mom and her kids to stay in their own home as a family rather than having the mom live separately from her children. HRS management and line staff listen to input from team members. HRS staff work as a team with outside providers and among themselves. If there are any concerns, I know that they will be addressed and resolved. I trust HRS fully to ensure my clients’ needs will be met.
